Need help deciding if we should sell house in the country and buy new house in town, and not go broke.?

We have a house in the country where we have lived for 15+ years. It has 1 1/2 acres to mow and other outside maintenance. We always thought move into town someday when we are older and don’t want the mowing responsibility. But were not planning on doing it now, until I found a wonderful house in town. It is close to family etc. But it is new, as it was built where a house burned and is a rebuild. It is very nicely done and quality construction. We owe 25,000 on our current home and may be able to get 100,000 to 110,00 for it. The new one is 130,000. How much further would we have to go in debt? My husband is not at all in favor of upping our mortgage payment. We are 58 and 60 years young.

So, if you owe 25K, and if you sold your current house for 110K, you will have 85K minus closing costs, that could be around 3,000. Let’s say that you will have 80K at the end. If you bought a house for 130K, you will have 45K of bottom line mortgage, and with other fees, you may have 50 to 55K of mortgage. It’s not that much in my view. You probably want to do the 15 year mortgage at 6%, payment will be roughly $464 per month, this does not include taxes and insurance. Can you do this?

What is the proper tip to leave for housekeeping at a motel?

We stayed at an older motel on Route 66 in Missouri from late Wednesday night till Saturday morning. There was an envelope left for a tip for housekeeping. The rent was $65.00 a night and all they did make the beds (not change the bedding), empty the trash and replace used towels. What would the proper tip have been?

I always leave a tip for housekeeping if they do a good job. Minimum $2, max $5 is fine.

What type of accomodation can i find in australia?

Hi friends,
Im planing to come to australia for my higher studies.I want to know about accomodation types i can find in australia(melbourne).Specially the facilities i get for each type and the cost(cheapest).
-I like single rooms with attached bathrooms.can i find that kind of rooms. If i can ,how much will be the cost.

Ask at the university you are looking to study at if they have "on campus accommodation".. its going to be the easiest and cheapest option for a student.

Another suggestion would to become part of a ‘share house’ or ‘group house’.. rent a room in a house for about $100 a week?

Would you say body lotion is a luxury item or an essential to hygiene?

Is lotion a luxury item or do you consider it an essential to hygiene?
Would you say using lotion after bathing is a "essential" like brushing your teeth, or would you say it was not really needed and just something extra?

I would say its an extra. Lets face it, its not as important as brushing your teeth!

Anyone know about accommodation on a budget in Rarotonga something really homely and cultural?

What is the best way to go about finding living accommodations for students in a small suburb of Dallas?

Gainesville is the name of the town. Need a place before August. Do you have any suggestions? Something with a normal price range.

Gainesville isn’t a ‘burb of Dallas. It’s actually 2 counties north of Dallas.

I’m guessing that your student will be attending NCTC? If so, is dorm life out of the picture? If living in the dorm is out, you may want to contact the school’s housing department & see if they have a listing of rentals in the area. http://www.nctc.edu/Student_Services/ResLife/Residence_life_main.html

I did a quick search & didn’t find any houses for rent. Here’s a listing of apartments in the Gainesville area. http://local.gainesvilleregister.com/Apartments.q.html

Does anyone know of any cheap accommodation in New York city?

A friend and I are in New York for the summer and we need a place to stay for two months. We don’t have a lot of money so we can’t afford the likes of 2 months rent to move in and such. A 1 bedroom would be grand for about $6-700 per month.

It will cost you that much PER WEEK for a one bedroom in NYC! You’re talking about $20 per day! You’ll barely find an apartment in NY STATE in that budget Try a HOSTEL.

Does Anyone know how much money i would need to start a Bed & Breakfast, and where could i get a business loan

Knew some folks who invested nearly all their life savings into such a venture… they love it! I believe they spent nearly $500,000, but it was quite a beautiful place. You can check some online B&B’s for sale… I’ve noticed some can go for a million on up. To get that business loan, you’ll have to have excellent credit and devoted to the hard work a B&B requires… long hours, few times off. Hope you realize your dream… go for it!

How to find accommodation in Australia for a working holiday visa holder?

I have a working holiday visa for Australia but I seem to be having trouble finding accommodation. Does anyone know how working holiday visa holders go about finding a house rental? I’m aware of the real estate finder websites, my problem is the fact that those guys require a physical inspection before they can accept your application.

If anyone has any idea what the best way to go about this is, it would be really helpful (maybe some sort of government help or something for foreigners looking to rent a house in Australia?)

It really depends on where you want to rent and what sort of accommodation you are after. It might be worthwhile to contact the real estate agency and inform them about your situation. In order to rent a house you need to be able to provide the agency with proof of income.

It might be an idea to come over here first. You could stay in a Caravan Park for a couple of days and search for a place from there.A lot of Caravan Parks offer really good facilities.

what temperature a house in a cold country should be when nobody is home?

I am going on vacation for a week…I will turn down the heat temperature … what is the recommended temperature for a cold country like Canada .. when nobody is home… and is it right to shut the water heater as long as the house temperature is not too low? or that will freeze the pipes?..

There are, of course, variables that make it difficult to give an answer that is spot-on. These variables include insulation, type of heating system, existence of unheated areas that are plumbed, etc..

If it were mine, I’d set it at no less that 50F. This will effect some savings in heating cost while assuring that enough heat gets to the plumbing and other sensitive areas. Keep in mind that freezing pipes are not the only concern. Many floor types, some furniture and other items can be adversely affected by low temperatures and / or large swings in temperatures.

Many water heaters have a ‘vacation’ setting on the adjustment knob. If yours does not, you would be safe to turn it to ‘low’, but I would recommend against turning it off.
