If the student failed to notify to the professor that he is learning disabled past a certain point. Does the professor have a right to deny the student those accommodations for the remainder of the semester/session ?

You have to get your accommodations through the university’s students with disabilities program. Once you do that, the professor cannot deny you your accommodations. If he is, talk with the disabled student services office. It is their job to help. The professor can deny you accommodations if you do not go through the disabled students office.

The professor cannot deny you accommodations for the remainder of the semester just because you did not give the professor the paperwork in advance. Think about it, some students do not have documentation of their disability or choose to try to study without the accommodations at first.

You are legally entitled to your accommodations from the point you give the instructor your paperwork. But you cannot get accommodations for work you already did unless the instructor wants to allow that.

You also need to be reasonable. If there is not time to give the professor time to implement the accommodations, then he may be allowed to deny you. For example, if you require a copy of all his notes, you may have to wait a week. And the professor may not be able to find you another testing area or move the class to another classroom if you give short notice.

However, if you have several more weeks left in the semester then the instructor does HAVE TO provide accommodations as listed by the disabled student services office. If the instructor fails to do so, go talk to the disabled student services office. If they fail to do anything, write a typed letter (you save one) to the dean of student services. In your letter, ask for a meeting with the dean. Be sure to provide your contact information so that the dean can schedule an appointment.

Just make sure your requests are reasonable as well and you give reasonable notice of your needs.

Since this is before school starts where I live, I am assuming you might not have started college yet and you want to know what will happen if you need accommodations later. In that case, still register with the disabled students office to get accommodations. Professors can not give accommodations unless you do that. Let the office know that you will try without accommodations first. If you decide you need accommodations, take the documentation the disabled student services office provides to your professor during his office hours. Most professors are nice about accommodations. Lots of people have them – and they do not want to get in trouble for not providing them.
