How to provide reasonable work accommodations for disability?

What are reasonable accommodations to be made for a co-worker/peer who has a disability? How is "reasonable" defined? Do such accommodations include researching information about the disability so as to better understand how to work with the disabled co-worker?
I’m looking for some guidelines to start with. There’s lots about how to manage your own disability, but how does a co-worker manage working with someone who is disabled? And how far is that co-worker required to go by U.S. law?

An employer must provide reasonable accommodations for a disabled worker, and for most, the cost is minimal and it is tax deductible.

As for co-workers, communication is the key. Ask your disabled co-worker how they would like to be treated and whether or not they even want any assistance. Don’t just jump in and do things for them. They may not want or need it.

Do you recommend staying at Comfort Suites, Bahamas and using all of Atlantis’s accommodations ?

I am planning a trip to Atlantis, and I was told that if I stay at a hotel 5 minutes away from Atlantis, Bahamas, that I could use all of Atlantis’s accommodations, and it would be included. Plus, I could stay 3 days longer for $2,000 dollars less. What should I do ? I understand that the one will save me money, but is it worth it to not stay at Atlantis’s Royal Towers?

Unless your staying at the High End towers like COVE or REEF, the other towers are pretty ordinary.
I’d recommend staying at Comfort Suites and reaping the benefits (also free breakfast).
The CS is closer to the waterpark and Beach than some of the Atlantis towers. You won’t miss out on anything.

How do I get college housing accommodations?

I’m considering going to either Marquette University or Alverno College. If I decide to live on campus I would need housing accommodations for a genetic disorder that I was born with. How would I inquire about special housing accommodations and would this even be possible? My main problem is that I would need a more apartment type of a dorm because I need access to stove etc (my disorder is a metabolic one). Thanks!

Actually, the above poster is incorrect–all colleges are required to provide ADA accessible housing if they provide housing, but it could be something they have to rent off campus. Call the housing offices of each school and talk to them about your concerns, and they will pull your file and place you somewhere you require to be.

Also, you may want to consider looking off campus all together–you could find a place by yourself if that’s what you’re looking for.

Good luck!
