* Want to go travelling this summer / early Autumn and spend an extended period abroad. Does anyone know how to get really cheap or free accommodation? I’m not too picky where I go, and it could be outside of Europe, as long as it’s low cost.
* What are the cheapest rates for apartments, hotel rooms etc? Is it possible to stay somewhere for less than £10 per night?
* Someone told me about a year ago that on a Greek island he found little churches that had beds in which you could use for free. Anyone have any knowledge of places similar to this or ideas to get around paying typical holiday maker fees?
* I’m not a backpacker as such just need to get away for more than the usual 2 weeks so I have to stretch my budget pretty thin.
* Not against package holidays if they are cheap enough. But I think I will be by myself, and most of package holidays are based on 2+ people sharing.
* Open to tents and camping or other options. But don’t particularly want to share a room with someone I don’t know.
* I want to move about too, so I’d be staying for a few weeks and moving on somewhere else. Are cheap one way flight easy to find without planning? for example, if I was in Spain and decided to move on could I find a flight to Italy or Greece quickly for a reasonable amount?
Thank you in advance. All info appreciated.
In Eastern Europe and South East Asia, you will find the cheapest accommodation. For the rest of the world, you can try couchsurfing.org Make an account there and you can sleep on someone’s couch, but keep in mind that this place isn’t a dating site or just to save money, but also to meet people with your same interests. But if you don’t want to share a room with someone you don’t know, neither hostels nor couchsurfing is good for you, which is a pity since a big reason why someone decides to travel around, is to meet new people.
Example in Poland, you can spend a week in a hostel for 50euro.
Eurail [if you're not from the E.U.] and interrail [if you are from the E.U.] may be your best options regarding transport. It just depends on how long you’ll be spending in each place or if you have a lot of places in mind. Trains and planes aren’t your only choice, you can even take a coach, which are usually very cheap: http://www.simpleexpress.eu/en and http://www.nationalexpress.com/home.aspx
Do a lot of research before you leave, about planning, budgeting and stuff and maybe you will also change your mind about wanting a room by yourself.
Have fun.
