Can a motel raise a rate after a confirmation number has been given?

Booked a room online at a small motel in Chico California at the rate of $110 per night.
Was given a confirmation number and printed out the reservation.
Got a call from the manager today saying the rate was wrong and the rate will be $150 per night.
Is this legal?

Legal probably not however yes this can happen, Until you pay in full any room rate can change due to local tax’s and cost of living.
