What is the difference between a Hotel and a Motel?

My family and I are planning on going to Niagara Falls this weekend. We want to stay for 2 days but we just don’t know if we should stay at a Hotel or Motel. So if you could tell me the difference, it would help a lot! Thank you! :)

Hotels generally also have restaurants. and other services – Ho meaning home

Motel just rooms for the night Mo – motor usually right off the road
here is anothetr tid bit

some cities near water have
Botels as in boats with accomodations
